Illinois Fire Safety (Updated 7/7/2008)

Illinois: H298 - The bill bans certain flame retardants in residential products and electronic devices, but does not name any alternative chemicals that are "safer." The bill is being discussed in conjunction with HB 1421, which could prohibit the distribution of any product intended for indoor residential use containing decaBDE. While this legislation is currently on hold, it could come back in the Fall. These broad types of bills can set a dangerous precedent for the state of Illinois.
