Maine Fire Safety (Updated 7/7/2008)

Maine: LD 2048 - This bill, sitting in the House Natural Resources committee, would require manufacturers of children's products that contain certain flame-retardants to replace the current chemicals with a "safer alternative". However, the law does not identify a safer alternative. This is a good example of flawed legislation. While this proposal is still sitting in Committee, it is bad public policy that is not based in science and proven variables.
